Whilst many times womens love of lipstick is often seen as vain or frivolous, personally I think nothing could be further from the truth. The history of lipstick goes back far, in fact humans have always sought to distinguish themselves from others through jewellery and face paints. Many civilisations from Egypt to Mesopotamia had their own version, it is part of our culture.
Fast forward to today and lipstick is an item in most make up bags with a vast array of colours and formulas to choose from. I tend to think anything we put on the delicate lip area needs to be of the best quality available, after all there is a high chance we will end up swallowing some of said lipstick, luckily for us the natural world has us well catered for, see this blog post on a few brands I recommend here. Today's brand however is something very special indeed, the creme de la creme of natural lipstick, I am extremely excited to introduce you to Nudus Australia.
Nudus is a range of certified organic lipsticks, they carry the prestigious COSMOS stamp and were created by the lovely Diana who is clearly passionate about making a lipstick product that women can feel good about. The lipsticks are hand crafted using ayurvedic principles, this means they use a mixture of minerals, flowers, fruits and herbs to colour the lips. The ingredients really are carefully thought out and full of healing oils, think avocado, pomegranate and argan, no cheap carrier oils here. Personally I find my favourite thing about Nudus is the flattering colour palette and the lasting power, which is second to none. These are beautiful, grown up and glamorous colours and textures that make you feel great when you wear them.
I was kindly sent three colours to review: Just Like Jade* is a beautiful deep plum shade, just perfect for Autumn but surprisingly flattering all year round. Halo* is a pretty classic pink shade, would look great on lighter skin tones but is very easy to wear. 27 Kisses* is a wonderful deep rose with a brown undertone to it, it seems to look different on everyone depending on your natural lip colour but importantly, it looks universally flattering on every image I have seen so far.
These lipsticks ooze quality, in fact unusually for a lipstick range made from natural ingredients I didn't notice any variation in pigment levels or texture between the shades, all three performed extremely well. The quality of the product is reflected in the price, a Nudus lipstick will set you back $42 Australian dollars. Sadly there isn't currently a European stockist, hold on tight though I am hoping that will be resolved shortly! But if you are in the US the very lovely Megan from Seed to Serum also has them in her beautiful shop. I will leave you with an Elizabeth Taylor quote, in my opinion Liz nails it:
